Simple, Hilarious, Popular, and Modern

Percy Dearmer prefaces The Oxford Book of Carols with the opening sentence,

"Carols are songs with a religious impulse that are simple, hilarious, popular, and modern."

How about that?

John. We have a recording of Christmas carols and other related musics that I think you'd enjoy.
It's called Bright Day Star, put out by the Baltimore Consort, and it's all Christmas "pop", I guess, from the 1700s and such. If you ever have free time or money or some type of distant relative who asks what you want for your birthday, I recommend it.
